Goals. We all have them. We all want to achieve them.
What are your goals?
When I’m considering my goals, I find it helpful to embed them in the larger picture of my life: what I value, and what I’ve already achieved.
Looking at my goals with this lens helps me feel confident that 1) my new goal is aligned with my values, and 2) that since I have achieved goals in the past, I can achieve this goal.
Then, I can identify the first step toward this goal, which is always the hardest part. Once you’re moving, it’s easy to keep moving, but starting the momentum takes effort. That’s why it’s important to identify that first step—and take it—as soon as possible after you set a goal.
Then, you can work toward the goal in small increments every day.
I created a zine on goals (a GOALZINE) to help with this reflective process. It’s fun to think about some of the goals I’ve achieved in the past—because I can then use those skills and experiences as I work to reach my new goal.
The future doesn’t have to mimic the past (otherwise, why set goals at all?) but the past helps give me confidence that I can do it.
Not quite a cheerleader in my pocket, but a fun way to get started.
